Hi there! My name is Marla Smith, and I am the founder of Rooted Home Organization. I am passionate about helping people figure out how to make their space work for them instead of feeling like they are always working for the space.
How it began…
I enjoyed organizing even at a young age. From multiple moves, living in an apartment, and ultimately becoming a mother, these things all contributed to my desire and necessity for further organization and required a better understanding on my part. I have since learned how our personalities effect the types of clutter we have and hold on to, and more importantly, how to prevent the clutter from piling up in the first place.
My process for organizing and decluttering includes:
- Emptying out the space.
- Sorting into piles: Keep, Donate, Trash, Relocate
- Clean out and plan for the existing space.
- Put everything you need back in the space in an organized and beautiful way!
Before/After
This art teacher had tried tackling her basement multiple times, but was never able to get it done by herself. She wanted to get it ready to put on the market and get rid of stuff she hadn’t used or needed in years. She had a longer timeline, so we started with a few virtual consults, and she worked on getting a lot cleaned out so we could work on the shelves.
When we finally got to do the in-person organizing, we knocked it out in one session by working together, start to finish! She wanted to use existing bins and what she had on hand, so we made it work with uniform labels. We filled up a trailer with stuff to haul away, and an entire curbside garbage can full of garbage. In addition, there were many bags & boxes for donation.
After this session, she is now able to easily access and find her art supplies, and anything else she needs without trouble or having to navigate around all the clutter. We created the organized and functional space that she wanted!
